About Waterford Garden Plant Society

This Waterford garden club was founded in 1984 by a group of gardening enthusiasts who wished to share their interest & promote gardening. Affiliated to the Royal Horticulture Society of Ireland.

 

Our symbol is the Fennessy’s Oak, which is a very rare tree species and has a long association with Waterford.

Summer Outings

PILTOWN EVENING VISIT
Thursday, April 16th

An evening visit to Mark and Jane Roper’s beautiful garden at Heron Cottage, Piltown, followed by tea, coffee, and scones at Comerfords Bar, Mooncoin.

GOREY GARDENS
Friday, May 22nd

Travel to Gorey for a visit to the newly opened Tubberduff Garden, followed by lunch at Ashdown Park Hotel and an afternoon exploring Noel Gillices Garden at Butterfield House.

GLEBE HOUSE, BONMAHON
Thursday, June 11th

Meet at Glebe House, Bonmahon for an evening in Jim and Marian Cussen’s garden, with lovely views, tea, and donations in support of the Hospice.

SUIR VEW GARDEN
Saturday, July 11th

Meet at Suirview Garden, Newcastle for a visit to this newly opened hillside garden with views over the Suir River Valley, along with tea, cake, and plants for sale.

SEPTEMBER COACH OUTING
Saturday, September 5th

Enjoy a coach-only outing with stops at the award-winning Johnstown Garden Centre and The Poppy Garden, followed by supper at Lawlors Hotel.

Cost €70.

COACH TRIP TO CARLOW
Saturday, May 9th

Depart Waterford for a visit to Delta Sensory Gardens and The Arboretum Garden Centre, including a garden talk on new and trusted perennials, before returning home.

ANNUAL GARDEN HOLIDAY
June 1st to June 5th

Stay at the 4-star Castlecourt Hotel in Westport while visiting a variety of gardens, including Foxford Mills and Turlough Park.

Cost sharing €800 pp.

SOUTH WEXFORD GARDENS
Saturday, June 27th

Travel to South Wexford to visit Green Road Garden and Scar House & Garden, with tea, relaxing garden spaces, and a stop at Whitford House Hotel for lunch.

BACK TO INCH
Saturday, August 8th

Meet at Kilmurry Nursery for a tour of the private garden and garden centre, followed by a visit to Mary Rynhart’s mature garden, with tea along the way.
