About Waterford Garden Plant Society

This Waterford garden club was founded in 1984 by a group of gardening enthusiasts who wished to share their interest & promote gardening. Affiliated to the Royal Horticulture Society of Ireland.

 

Our symbol is the Fennessy’s Oak, which is a very rare tree species and has a long association with Waterford.

Events 2024

BURREN TRIP BY COACH
Monday April 29th – Wednesday May 1st

9.00am Coach leaves the quay near Dooley’s Hotel for 3-day trip to the Burren Region.

Cost €280 sharing, €340 single. 

GARDENS OF CO. DOWN TRIP
Monday June 3rd – Friday June 7th

8.00am Coach leaves the Quay near Dooley’s Hotel for full program of garden visits staying at the Carrickdale Hotel near Newry. Cost €585 sharing, €685 single. 

MARTIN & BRIDGET KENNEDY’S GARDEN SHIELBAGGAN
Saturday June 29th

2.30pm We will spend a nice afternoon at this large garden with streams, etc. Eircode: Y34 K516. Cost €5 (subsidised). Tea & buns.

PEG MOLLOY’S GARDEN
Thursday August 1st 

7.00pm This is a very good garden with interesting features and countryside views. Tea Served. €5 per person in aid of the Community Hospital New Ross. Old Court, Ballykelly, Y34 XD86

DONERAILE COURT
Saturday September 7th 

Coach only outing to this historic property which only opened 2 years ago. 8.00am - 6.00pm approx. 

CARMEL ANN DALY’S GARDEN
Thursday May 9th

This is a rare opportunity to see this plant person’s large garden. Not suitable for anyone with mobility issues, no teas, no seating – just plants! Minibus shuttle from Ballygunner Church. Strictly limited to 30 people.

SARA WHELAN & NOEL BYRNE’S GARDEN Thursday June 20th

6.30pm Evening visit to this interesting rural garden at the Old Schoolhouse, Dunmaine, Co Wexford, Y34 H642. Cost €5 (subsidised).

JOHN & STASIA GRACE’S GARDEN Thursday July 18th 

7.00pm Our long-time members John & Stasia have invited us to see their garden at Charlefield, the Rower (a few miles from New Ross. Country garden specialising in Dahlias. Cup of tea served. Members free. Non-members €5.

AFTERNOON TEA AT WOODHOUSE WALLED GARDEN, STRADBALLY Thursday August 15th 

1.30pm Arrive for visit to this lovely walled garden followed by afternoon tea at 2.30pm. Numbers strictly limited to 56 members.
